The  Living Wage Foundation (LWF) the living wage for London is £8.55 an hour and for the rest of the UK £7.45 an hour. Compare that with the national minimum wage of £6.19 an hour and it may not be surprising that many employers are choosing to pay a ‘living wage’ as oppose to just minimum wage.

Leading the trend are some solicitors practices who have signed up to the LWF in an attempt to ensure staff are paid a liveable wage. The benefits of offering the enhanced wage are mainly to motivate staff and provide a more efficient workforce. As more organisations commit to paying a ‘living wage’ those who don’t are likely to become more noticeable.

Employers should ensure they are paying the correct minimum wage as a failure to do so can result in fines from HMRC and an order of back pay.  For more information, please  telephone us.
